April 24, 2010 - Amazing views from Domme's Esplanade

Day 11 — April 24, 2010 (Saturday)

Woke to an unexpectedly nice day. Rain had been predicted. Ed did a laundry as soon as I finished my shower and as things washed, we drove into town to find the free wifi. It’s in a bar but upstairs where it’s very nice and even has outlets. Had no trouble connecting but my temperamental touchpad was in a mood and I hadn’t brought the mouse. Quel dommage!

We managed to send e-mails, download and install nine Windows security updates and pay the mortgage, hopefully only once. All that took an hour and a half. Drove home and hung out the laundry then drove up to Domme looking for lunch. We checked L’Esplanade from “A Castle in the Backyard” but felt it was too expensive for what it offered. Wandered past the church to the market square and found a pleasant place with a great 14.50 euro menu. We got the hot goat cheese salad starter; Ed got coq au vin Bergerac and I got confit de canard. For dessert Ed had a walnut cake and I got the duo chocolat, white and dark chocolate puddings. The meal was excellent . . . meat cooked to perfection and tasty sides. After lunch we bought our evening baguette and then explored Domme pretty thoroughly. It’s very picturesque and we both took many pictures. We ended at the Esplanade de la Barre and claimed a bench. Great view over the Dordogne River and valley with interesting people watching.

Drove down the hill to Cenac and found the church. It is a very large church for a small town. It was once attached to Cluny Abbey which explains the size. Took lots of photos and headed for the pharmacy for an antihistamine for Ed who has been fighting a cold for a couple days. Pharmacy closed . . . on to Shopi where we got more cheese, juice, apples, wine . . . and no antihistamines, Sigh . . .

Back to the house where we finally met M. Guinot, the elder, a man of few words (in any language).
